Yes, It Makes Me Smile

Every day something in this life beats me down. Every day.

I have finally sat myself down behind the wheel of my car.  It is 7:54pm.  It is dark out.

I close my eyes and let out a sigh from deep within me.  The heel of my hands found their ways to my eyes and rubbed off any remaining eyeliner.

A yawn escapes.

I blink out the water from the yawn and start my car.  Even though I am in a parking structure, the satellite radio comes alive–still on channel 17: The Jam: Pearl Jam radio.

Eddie Vedder’s growly croon fills my tiny car and I smile.

It’s time to go home.

I know I will be greeted by a small, curly-haired boy who will be so excited to see me, that he will snatch the pipey out of his own mouth and launch it down the stairs at me, and proceed to point and “ooo! oooo!” at me.

I know that from up in the living room I will hear, “hey babes.  welcome home.”

My house will be warm and filled with the anticipation of “momma” coming home.

Toys will be spread everywhere and dishes will be in the sink.  Off-limits picture frames and books will be stacked neatly on the island rescued from “helping” hands.  Gates will be in place.

I have missed all the fun and tears that created this.

But I am home now.  And that makes me smile.

Don’t it make you smile?
When the sun don’t shine, it don’t shine at all?
Don’t it make you smile?
I miss you already…I miss you always.
I miss you already…I miss you all day.
This is how I feel…
I miss you already…yeah…I miss you always.
The crooked heart swells all around, yeah…I miss you all day.
Don’t it make you smile?

I can’t imagine having to be away from my people all day. You are lucky to have them welcome you home the way they do, though. Beautiful.

I am on maternity leave and loving being home with my kids. I don’t look forward to going back to work when I will be away from them all day. Great post! Visiting from Red Dress.

Mmmm…. Pearl Jam. I haven’t listened to them in so long. I think I may have to do that later today!

I hate being away from my kids too. It’s sucks.

There is nothing better than coming home to a house full of love! And I love the description of items rescued from “helping” hands.
Stopping by from The Red Dress Club!

  8. When I went back to work after the birth of my first son, I remember how all the work stress just melted away when I opened the door.

    LOVE Pearl Jam!
